ROSCA DE REYES LUNCHEON
On January 6th, a mixer will be held where the traditional Rosca de Reyes cake along with the traditional Mexican hot chocolate will be served according to Mexican style and tradition.
CAMCOIN NOCHE DE GALA AND CASINO
Around Martin Luther King Day, CAMCOIN will hold a Noche de Gala recognizing outstanding members and board members for their hard work and participation throughout the previous year. In addition, the new board members and committee heads for the new year will be announced and sworn in. The Gala will also host a Casino Night and Silent and Live Auction of luxury items and professional services donated by our members and partners.
ANNUAL 5K MARATHON
During the month of February, CAMCOIN will be hosting a 5K marathon to promote athletics and healthy living. This event serves as an opportunity for our members and the community to exercise together and to promote the benefits of a good diet and exercise.
CHAIRMAN’S CARNE ASADA COOKOFF
In March, CAMCOIN will host an annual cook-off of traditional Mexican barbecue, featuring a unique dishes such a cabrito, for example. Our member restaurants, corporate members, and businesses will be encouraged to form teams and to compete. Ticket holders will be allowed to taste a variety of foods from several contestants.
CINCO DE MAYO FIESTA
May 5th or Cinco de Mayo is traditionally celebrated in the U.S. by Americans and the U.S. Hispanic community and is primarily used an excuse to drink heavily. CAMCOIN’s restaurant/bar members, on the other hand, will host this colorful fiesta with a variety of traditional Mexican foods and beverages and more. CAMCOIN will also take the opportunity use the event to enlighten the public on it’s true historical significance to Mexico.
MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATION
Around Mother’s Day, a formal dinner will be held honoring mothers, Latina entrepreneurs and female community leaders who have made a positive impact in our community with their achievements, hard work and dedication to the betterment of our community.
BUSINESS EXPO AND V.I.P. AUCTION
Early July, CAMCOIN will host a business expo and auction. Each member and corporate partner will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services to each other and the public. The Expo will be highly promoted via television, radio, newspaper, magazines and social media. Many of the items displayed and auctioned will showcase the rich heritage and diverse culture of CAMCOIN’s membership.
DIA DEL GRITO FIESTA (16th of September)
Due to our proximity to Mexico and the fact that a majority of our members immigrating from there, we celebrate the Independence Day of Mexico to honor our heritage and to educate the community of the culture just across the border from the Valley. Attendees will be highly encouraged to dress in authentic regional dress from different regions and eras of Mexico’s past. Male attire will range from sarapes, charro suits, sombreros, guayaberos, baja jackets, ponchos, huaraches, bandoliers, etc. Female attire will range from the huipil, quechquémitl, rebozo, Mexican skirts (they have various names in different regions – enredo, chincuete, posahuanco, refajo, enagua, etc. Authentic Mexican food and drink will be served.
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS ART SHOW (Day after Halloween Nov 1st)
The day after Halloween is traditionally celebrated as el dia de los muertos in various regions of Mexico. We decided to use this day to showcase the art and music of the latino culture. We will invite several artisans, artists, musicians, etc. to display and sell their art to the community. Attendees will be encouraged to wear painted faces inspired by Frida Kahlo type art.
ANNUAL FIESTA GOLF TOURNAMENT AT CIMARRON (Around Veterans Day Nov 11th)
In November near Memorial Day, we will be hosting a fundraiser Golf Tournament at the Club at Cimarron in Mission, TX. Proceeds will go towards the general operating fund of CAMCOIN and is a great opportunity for our members to enjoy an outdoor activity together.
ANNUAL CHRISTMAS POSADA (Around December 12th)
Early December, CAMCOIN will host a Christmas posada celebrating the holiday season. Candlelight posada, exchange of gifts, breaking of pinatas, and Christmas dinner for members and their families.
LEGISLATIVE ROUNDTABLE DEBATES (In February and October)
Twice a year we usually have some type of elections going on and as one of our most important civil duties, we highly encourage our members to be involved and to participate in the election of our leaders. As leaders ourselves, CAMCOIN will host two roundtable debates where people in the audience can ask questions and the candidates can each have the opportunity to explain their position. Our debates will be hosted by our members who are spanish radio or television personalities and our goal is to have them televised on spanish TV and/or radio.
